Dear Mom,
I want to start this letter by saying that you're an idiot for putting yourself in this situation. How the hell does a 15 year old get pregnant. That shouldn't even be physically possible. I am disappointed in you for not using protection. I cannot even fathom what you're feeling right now. But maybe if you weren't raised in a shitty household and taught more about sex education then you wouldn't have been in that situation. Maybe you wouldn't have gotten pregnant. If someone in your life cared enough to sit down and talk to you about what happens when you have sex. But it still doesn't excuse your childish acts of getting pregnant!!!!
I honestly do not even know what to say to you because if I was in this position there is no way in hell I would keep a child being 17 and about to graduate.
I wish I could tell you to keep it and everything will be okay, but it's not going to be okay. You made a mistake and either way you're going to be dealing with it for the rest do your life.
All I can say is according to your 14th amendment you have the right as a women to terminate your pregnancy and attempt to move on with the rest of your life as if nothing ever happened.
Fast forward 17 years, and here I am, in my senior year of high school about to graduate from Foothill Technology all because you chose to keep me. I am going to graduate and go to college to start my own career, all things you never got to do. You gave up your life at 15 to mother me and make me your biggest responsibility. I know that this wasn't an easy thing to to do or decide. But you did and here I am, you created me.
I'll never be able to thank you enough for the decision you made, it's insane to me still.
But you do it, we did it.
So no I'm not saying I am pro-life and everyone should keep their babies, I am saying everyone is capable and there are no excuses. But only the strong people can really do it at the end of the day. That's what it comes down to, the strong ones. No matter the circumstance.
And you my dear, are a strong ass women.
Sincerely,
Your favorite daughter,
Shelly B.
p.s.
They say all teenage pregnancy is horrible and frowned upon, but till this day my mom still tells me I saved her life. I was the miracle she never expected. Because if she wouldn't of had me she would've kept living her lifestyle and can't even promise she'd still be alive.
Some times miracles happen in the most unexpected ways.
